Exi-Jesus

Today I had my first meeting with the other interns. For part of the meeting we were able to have a Q&A session with a staff member. This staff member is, like, the best speaker/teacher at the church and so lots of questions came up about the best teaching style and lots of fancy-named sermon types and expository readings of the Bible and stuff like that. In the first sentance and a half three big words (including exegesis, which I got a definition of later) had been thrown around by one of the other interns and I was lost. from there it digressed into a discussion of various theologians, from the early catholics through Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I guess all of them were following it, but I was sure in over my head. I just kept my mouth shut and tried to learn.

I felt ignorant…and yet, while I know that different methods of studying these things can do wonders for your understanding and personal growth, and I’m not knocking them, I also realize that there is faith that can move mountains to be found in the least educated regions of the world. The Holy Spirit who helps us understand as we read God’s word is our Great Educator.

Phew! I vow that I will not argue theology with anyone while I am here!

    Mel,
Welcome to my world. Jerry throws around big theological words all the time. One of my favorites is hermaneutics which actually means the exegesis (or principles underlying interpretation) of Scripture. Unbeknownst to me it has nothing to do with anyone named Herman. :o)
