Ohio Bound

I am sooo excited! This week-end Rob and Amy are getting married (which is cool) and, of course, that means that I get to see all of my friends from home!!! I basically have not seen any of my friends and family back home but Lisa, Crystal, and Megan– and those people only for a day or two- since I moved here. This despite big talk from loads of people about coming out to visit me. :-\ I miss everyone so much at this point that I just can’t wait. I was pretty much useless at work today. Just as well, I suppose; I wound up having an unexpected afternoon off. I spent it doing laundry, packing, studying for the GRE, and watching the simply fabulous US woman’s soccer team prove that they are the best in the world.

[As a side note, Mia Hamm is my new heroine. To still be playing and winning Gold medals twelve years after her first Olympics…I mean, the woman is 32. And a lot of her teammates are right around that age, too. And to hear her and the other women on the team talk about each other…they are life-long friends, family really. They’ve grown up together. Everything important they have done together– careers, health issues, love, marriage, having children, losing parents, everything. Authentic community. What most people in the world wouldn’t give to have that.]

Anyways, I can’t wait to see everyone and get the enormous bear-hugs I have been missing out on all summer long. I want to be home so bad it hurts sometimes…and then at other times I am so grateful to be here, to have this opportunity to learn about myself. Whatever. I’ll be home for nine months at the least, in another couple of weeks.
