Home for the Holidays Part 1
Thanksgiving is here and I am at my parents’ for the week-end, like the dutiful daughter, bringing pumpkin ice cream and other such-like from Graeters. Tonight I have done a mountain of dishes so that tomorrow we can have a fresh start before creating another mountain of dishes. Joy. The dishes are ordinarily my sister’s job but as luck would have it she is busy sewing costumes for a Christmas pageant or something like that.
Tomorrow my little sister Jackie and I will watch the Thanksgiving Day parade, my Father will wrestle with the turkey, which will as always take half an hour longer to cook than it is supposed to, my mother will peel an entire bag of potatoes for me to mash (I’m a liability with a peeler so mashing is my job), and my twin sister, Merry, will kick everyone out of the kitchen while she makes a couple of perfect, and perfectly frustrating, pie crusts. The rest of the afternoon will be devoted to football on one tv and the history channel on the other tv.
Friday my mother and I will shop ’til we drop, and then it will be crunch time because I have a couple of papers to write this week-end.
I’ll probably blog a couple more times this week-end but there’s my run-down. How about you guys? What are the traditions for you?

I made pies this week…four of them. My supervisor was out of town and my computer was broken…so I made pies. They rocked!
