The Mean Reds

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

I’m having a case of the mean reds. This is not when Lou Pinella smashes a toilet. This is like getting the blues, only worse. In “Breakfast at Tiffanys,” Holly Golightly says: “…the blues are because you’re getting fat or because it’s been raining too long. You’re just sad, that’s all. The mean reds are […]

A bit of culture for you.

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

Delivering your dose of culture for the day. This is from a book by Henry James. You know, the guy they talk about in the movie Notting Hill, when Julia Roberts asks Hugh Grant what he thinks of her movie and he says, well, it’s not Jane Austen or Henry James, and then later on […]

Guys: TMI alert. Read at your own risk.

I like Vicodin. Vicodin is nice. The nicest thing about it is that not only can I not feel my foot, but I can’t feel anything ele from the waist down either…bring on the PMS! I can’t feel a thing. Hurray!
I’m going to go now…I’m starting to get incoherent again, I can tell.

And people think home schoolers are weird.

I’m sorry, but my school days were no where near as weird as this little girl’s are.
Third-grader commutes to school by mule
BISMARCK, North Dakota (AP) — Saje Beard’s half-hour commute to class is the envy of her four classmates at a one-room schoolhouse just south of here.

Farmers critical of controlled burn on windy day
LONGMONT, Colorado (AP) — Authorities are investigating whether Forest Service workers can be charged with arson for a 900-acre wildfire that was ignited after gusty winds carried flaming cow dung outside a controlled burn site.
Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck said he received several complaints from farmers and […]

They’re so non-violent…except for when it comes to Fox Hunting. I mean, we grew up with Duck Hunt.

Economics Geek Alert

Friday, March 18th, 2005

If you don’t want to be geeked way out of your comfort zone, don’t read this. If, however*, you find yourself even mildly interested in what I study in the interesting classes in my course schedule, then read on, oh king (or queen), pay homage to The Economist (fast becoming my favorite magazine) and learn […]

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Thursday, March 17th, 2005

I love St. Patrick’s Day. It is one of my favorite holidays. I am so sad that I can’t go out and paint the town green. My foot would make leaving the house a bit difficult right now. But I got as dressed up as a person on Vicodin can get, and I’m wearing […]

Gimpy

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

So, you may ask, what does one do when one has had surgery on one’s foot and is stuck on one’s mother’s sofa? Well might you ask. Because there isn’t much.
One sleeps a lot, to begin with. One watches a lot of movies. Preferably some that one has already seen, because due to the vicodin […]

Home

Some things never change.
The horse that belings to the neighbor across the road has a new foal. Jackie’s kitten is sleek and grey and big enough to catch mice now. Dad has a new baby (read: gun safe) and has decided that he needs some more pistols to help fill up the extra space in […]
