People With Wi-Fi Are Like Leeches
Right now I’m leeching off of the convention center’s Wi-Fi.
That’s right. I’m computing with you on my church’s worship leader’s laptop while listening to a large African American mens’ choir sing gospel music while wearing what appears to be either grey jogging suits or prison uniforms. People are dancing and clapping and cheering all about me.
I’m about to hear from Jim Wallis (Author of God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong And The Left Doesn’t Get It).
Thoughts for the day:
-Most days I wake up and say to myself, “I wish I didn’t talk so much. I wish I talked less and listened more.” So, why don’t I ever make progress? Why do I continually say things I regret?
-I don’t have to be left or right. I don’t have to be Catholic or Lutheran or Church of Christ. I can just love Jesus and love others.
-We need less religious extremists and more extremists for love and grace. (Stolen from Shane the Hippy and Jesus-lover.)
-How did Jesus become pro-rich, pro-war, and only pro-American? (Stolen from Jim Wallis)
-There are 2,000 verses in the Bible about the poor. This is something God cares about greatly and is very clear about his intentions and plans for! Why don’t we pay attention to them? If you physically cut out every verse in the Bible about poor people, the Bible itself would be torn and tattered and falling apart in your hands. And yet that is what many churches have done.

Great thoughts. Any other insights from hearing Jim Wallis? Which conference are you attending?
