Bus Ride
Every morning I take the bus down the hill from my apartment in uptown to the office, which is downtown. This doesn’t take long– maybe five minutes. This morning, however, was unlike other mornings thus far. First, The bus took a different route. As I looked down the intersection where we usually turn, I saw flashing police lights. The woman sitting a few seats away said to the bus driver, “Well, where you go-in’?” He explained to us that there was a detour on our route today. Well, I should think so, considering the number of cop cars sitting around. The driver told us what happened. Here’s the news story:
Officer Shot In The Leg
LAST UPDATE: 12/30/2005 7:55:14 AM
A Cincinnati Police officer recovers in the hospital Friday morning after he’s shot in the line of duty.
Authorities say around 11:40 Thursday night, two officers approached what they described as a suspicious looking man in Clifton Heights. They say when the officers identified themselves as police, the man shot at them, hitting one of the officers in the knee. The wounded detective continued to chase the suspect, who was arrested after a K-9 helped track him down.
The officer was taken to University Hospital.
Of course they don’t say why they thought the guy was suspicious. Cops have probably seen it all, so my guess is it must have been something pretty obviously wrong. All of this happened about, oh, five blocks from my house. As I’ve said in previous posts, my neighborhood has its share of problems.
But my exciting bus ride didn’t end there. Oh, no. As I got out of the bus, a huge rat scampered off the collection of trash cans sitting near the corner waiting to be emptied.
Welcome to OTR. Good morning, world.
