Rachel posted a survey that I liked. So, here it is, Vox. Meet Mel.

Four jobs I’ve had in my life:

1. Optometric office assistant
2. Grounds maintenance at a golf course
3. Reading textbooks, literature, poems, and other educational materials onto audio tape for students with visual impairments
4. Administrative assistant for a non-profit serving low-income, under-resourced naieghborhoods in Cincinnati, OH, USA and Haiti. :-)

Four movies I can watch over and over:

1. Anna and the King
2. Sabrina
3. Garden State
4. Little Women

Four places I have lived:

1. Albany, New York
2. Fairfield Township, OH
3. Cincinnati, OH
4. Chicago, IL

Four TV shows I love to watch:

1. Soccer, when it’s actually on in the states (that’s football for you UK people. And no, UK does not stand for University of Kentucky.)
2. The Food Network
3. House
4. Stuffy BBC dramas like Love in a Cold Climate or Pride & Prejudice or Agatha Christy murder mysteries. Why do I crave murder stories? It’s rather violent of me, but I love detectives. My favorite is Lord Peter Wimsey.

Four places I have been on vacation (translation for British people: holiday!):

1. England & Scotland (different places I know, but same trip)
2. Niagra Falls and New York City
3. Guatemala (if mission trips count as a vacation)
4. Disney World

Four websites I visit daily:

1. BBC World News
2. Yahoo music
3. My email
4. My friends’ blogs
Four of my favourite foods:

1. Italian! Chicken. With tomatoes. And artichoke hearts. And fresh basil. And tons of garlic. And other spices.
2. Tex-Mex Chili with tons of cumin
3. Sunday Roast with Yorkshire Pudding
4. My dad’s Italian beef sandwiches (it’s a Chicago thing.)

Four places I would rather be right now:

1. I quite like my job, actually.
2. London (or, Sheffield sounds quite nice!)
3. India
4. Driving south on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago at sunset

I agree. We need to go to Sheffield.

Yeah…after I go to LA to visit you…after I actually earn some vacation days at this crazy new job of mine. I’m beginning to think I am nuts.

  • Sam. Sam.

We’re definitely for lots of people coming to Sheffield!

Not that you could stop us if you didn’t want us. Sadly, we’re American (translation: headstrong, impatient, and at least borderline arrogant) and even for Americans, we’d be what you might call “a strong woman.” Ever notice that when people say a woman is strong, they nearly always mean strong-minded? And if they say a woman is strong-minded, they really mean she’s a holy terror.

    Oh, well. We have fun.

I’m with you on the murder mysteries! I love watching Miss Marple and Poirot. I used to read the books when I was about 10 years old. I’m quite into crime dramas. Sam thinks I’m a bit morbid sometimes I think! I don’t like violent stuff which is why an Agatha Christie is quite safe!

Definitely come and visit! The more the merrier. (sweeping generalisation approaching…) Most American’s first question to us is “how far are you from London?”. Do they not really want to come and visit Sheffield?! :) “Sheffield sounds ok but actually we’d rather go to London” is what I hear! When I was in the states I got asked if we have teabags in the UK or just the tea leaves like in the olden days. I could’ve made up a whole load of stuff just to keep their dream alive! But I didn’t. Also, we don’t all speak like Hugh Grant (I certainly don’t anyway! that would be scary!) I’ll stop now!

Yeah, I noticed that there about as many regional accents in England as there are in America…an astonishing accomplishment if you compare the relative sizes of the two countries. :-)
