World Cup Post USA

Welcome to life as an England Fan. Where you’re not quite such a red-headed step-child as USA fans are. The US networks still shun you but the soccer (oops, must call it football now) world thinks you’re much less crazy than they did before! Thankfully I’ve also got a little bit to be happy about today as England beat Ecuador 1-0 and (I think? Sam, Eric, correct me if I’m wrong here) made it to the next round. At any rate they’re not out yet. David Beckham proved why we’ve got still got the arrogant so-and-so around, and Rooney proved he’s still a force on the field (er, pitch).

There is fish and chips in my future, as well as curry fries and Strongbow.

I presume the St. George’s Cross is once again flying in Downing Street. As it now is on my blog.

I’m not sure who England plays next but I’m sure we’ll be told by the omnicient BBC before long. Until then, happy football watching!

Netherland v. Portugal: who are you rooting for (er, supporting)? I’m cheering for Portugal; they’re prettier. Lol!

Welcome to the rollercoaster life of an England supporter. Know that we’ll never win any game easily. Our players enjoy making the country sweat. There will never be a moment to relax and just enjoy, but there’s something special when you get caught up in it all. Welcome on board!

Oh, and yes, we are now in the quarter finals.

Your conversion progresses well. But we can improve on the Strongbow; there’s fine cider country around here.

For an England knockout match it was surprisingly restful, I only had to jump up and scream twice (thank goodness for the thigh of Ashley Cole) but we’ve got a grudge match against Portugal next Saturday so say goodbye to all the cute little passing around the pitch and hello to the blood freezing anytime Wayne Rooney goes near a Portuguese player with a murderous look in his eyes.

Truth be told, though, it was all rather dull. The *real* entertainment of the day was Portugal vs. Holland which was the most comical example of refereeing it’s ever been my privilidge to behold. The best (or worst) moments were those when all the players watched for the guy to turn away from them and then proceeded to punch or head butt each other.

Good news for us: vastly depleted Portuguese side. Bad news: rightfully peeved off Portuguese side out for blood. This could get very nasty.

I’m looking forward to it. I was eating lunch yesterday and missed most of the game against Ecuador. But the pulled pork put together rousing side!
