What a ship is, is freedom.

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Sam asked how I am. Fair enough; I haven’t truly posted in a while because I’ve been disgruntled, and I don’t like to sound gloomy too often.
How am I? How am I. Burned out. Tired. Be-worried. In need of a vacation.
Ahh, vacation. I haven’t had one since I can’t really remember when. I went to […]

When Cincinnati Turns Into Antigua

Friday, July 28th, 2006

It’s pouring down rain this morning. Has been for hours now.The drops have turned into sheets which the wind has turned horizontal and the puddles have formed streams. I stalled as long as I could, lingering over coffee and scone at the coffee shop and chatting with Courtney. But at last I had to face […]

Things I don’t like about this city.

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Since I talk about the things I like so often I thought I’d throw out a few detractors, for balance.
1) The taxes.
2) Trash day in summer. The entire sidewalk smells.
3) Not enough grass and trees.
4) The sunrises and sunsets just aren’t as pretty here- but maybe that’s because of Cincinnati’s Seven Hills.
5) The woman on […]

Doing the Right Thing

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

“When people do the right thing, it’s called responsibility. When a company does the right thing, it’s called [insert the name of an insurance company I can’t remember].”
My friend Steve** posted today about how, today, he is going to try an experiement: he’s going to act on his better impulses. He’s going to […]

Last night I lost about 20 years…

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Last night, one of my flatmates and I were snooping around our kitchen, trying to find ingredients that actually went together into a meal for dinner. Eventually we came up with one that took me back about twenty years.
We had a little kid’s dinner: Those chicken nuggets you can get in the freezer section, corn, […]

In 1996 in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Italian mineralogist Vincenzo de Michele spotted an unusual yellow-green gem in the middle of one of Tutankhamun’s necklaces.
The jewel was tested and found to be glass, but intriguingly it is older than the earliest Egyptian civilisation.

Working with Egyptian geologist […]

Learning to Believe Again

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

I love music. It’s expresses so many things I only wish I could find the words for, leaving me with only the words, Why couldn’t I have written that? If I could pick something to be excellent at, I think songwriting might be it. The common experience told through the lens of one person; and […]

Dream On

Monday, July 17th, 2006

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream. Wandering by lone sea breakers, and sitting by desolate streams. World losers and world forsakers, for whom the pale moon gleams.â€? -Arthur O’Shaughnessy
I’ve been dreamy lately. This does not lend itself to the job-hunt process, a process I am involved in yet […]
