Mom, The Cat Is In the Christmas Tree Again!
My sister’s cat, Reagan (yes, she is named after that Reagan– what? It’s a good, strong Irish name!) climbs our Christmas Tree. It is not a real tree, and she has no front claws; but so strong is her urge to climb that she hikes herself up with her front legs until she’s six feet in the air and can no farther go. This is the second year running with this problem. It’s becoming an annual tradition. And it’s really upsetting to my mother, because it means she can’t put any breakable ornaments on– or any with yarn or ribbon to shred.
Advice? How do you keep your cat out of the tree?

kill the cat….I kid…I kid. my mom always used a spray bottle to keep the cat away from the tree…but really…spraying water on a lit tree always made me nervous.
I’ve heard that cats hate the smell of citrus, so maybe putting some citrus smelling room spray by it.
Also I read that cats don’t like foil…they can’t latch onto it and it feels weird to their paws, so you can put that at the bottom of the tree or around the trunk.
And if all else fails…kill the cat.

When I first heard that cat’s name some years ago I thought for one brief, shining moment that it might have been named for the possessed kid in The Exorcist.
It was a brief moment.
